NH legislators approve poker tax
CONCORD, N.H. --New Hampshire legislators have passed a new tax on Texas Hold 'Em and other poker games being run by charities.
The legislation raises the maximum bet from $2 to $4.
A 3 percent tax would apply in tournaments where the playing chips had no monetary value. A 10 percent tax would apply if the chips had a monetary value.
The state already gets a share of wagers on Bingo and Lucky Seven.
The House voted 199-125 to pass the bill Wednesday; the Senate 16-7. Gov. John Lynch is expected to sign the bill.
