LACONIA, N.H.—Health warnings have been lifted at several popular beaches in Laconia, New Hampshire, but remain in effect at others.

State environmental officials say e-coli bacteria has cleared up at Weirs, Opechee and Bartlett beaches. Bacteria warnings also were lifted at Pirates Cove Beach in Rye, Darrah Pond Beach in Litchfield and Lake Winnisquam Beach in Sanbornton.

But the state says Lake Winnisquam has a larger problem, commonly known as Blue-Green Algae, that is affecting Bartlett beach and the town beaches in Sanbornton and Belmont. Blue-Green Algae produces toxins that can be hazardous to people and animals.

The beaches will remain open, but beach-goers will see signs and hear warnings from life guards and be advised not to swim there.

A bacteria warning also is posted at Ahern State Park in Laconia.
