CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire Congressman Paul Hodes says if veterans in the state have to drive farther for medical treatment, at least they should get paid more for their gas.

Hodes is co-sponsoring a bill that would increase the mileage reimbursement for veterans traveling to receive health care. He says bill would increase the mileage payment to 50.5 cents a mile, the same federal employees get. It also would include reimbursements for more veterans, not just those with certain service-related disabilities.

Last week, Veterans Affairs Secretary James Peake said he did not forsee that the Manchester VA Hospital would not be upgraded to a full service VA hospital. Some New Hampshire veterans travel to Boston or Vermont because of the limited services in Manchester.
