Colby, Shea win Newton's Revenge bike race

PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H.—Cycling pro Anthony Colby and fitness teacher Marti Shea won Saturday's Newton's Revenge bicycle race up Mount Washington.

Colby, 29, from Durango, Colo., finished the 7.6 mile race in 55:05, beating Phillip Gaimon of Tucker, Ga., who finished in 56:01.

Shea, 45, from Marblehead, Mass., was the first women's finisher, in 1:14:22. Her chain broke in the last 70 yards and she pushed her bike up the severe slope to the finish.

The second woman was Jane Meyer, 39, of Lyme, N.H., a former equestrian competitor, who finished in 1:24:25.

The race gains 4723 feet in altitude from the lowest point on the Mount Washington Auto Road to the summit, 6288 feet above sea level.
