CONCORD, N.H.—Service Credit Union is donating $25,000 to help poor New Hampshire families heat their homes this winter.

Credit union officials presented the money to Gov. John Lynch on Wednesday. The money will be divided among community action programs to ensure people in all 10 counties are helped.

Karen Benedetti, the credit union's marketing vice president, said the agencies plan to use the money to supplement federal heating aid, such as helping people whose incomes are barely above the threshold to qualify for the federal help.

The credit union also is lowering its interest rate on unsecured loans to pay for fuel.
