CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire consumers whose property was damaged by severe storms that swept through the state can get help with claims from the state Insurance Department.

The department says consumers should call its toll free hot line -- 1-800-852-3416 -- and ask for a consumer service representative.

Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny also is advising property owners to do what they can to protect their homes from further damage by covering broken windows or holes in the roof. He also says they should take pictures of the damage and keep receipts for any temporary repairs since they may be covered by insurance.
