WEIRS BEACH, N.H.—Federal officials have started touring areas of New Hampshire damaged by the recent floods to determine if the state qualifies for aid.

A team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency began its tour at Weirs Beach on Wednesday. Last week, flash floods washed out part of the boardwalk, damaged roads and destroyed part of the scenic railway. The railroad is still functioning, but it stops at the damaged portion.

Portions of Weirs Beach are still roped off, and FEMA officials were taking a closer look at the damage.

The teams will focus on damage to the public infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, rather than private losses. Part of the task is determining which department is responsible for the structure that was damaged.
