HUDSON, N.H.—The gorilla won't be coming back, but Benson's Wild Animal Farm in Hudson, N.H., could be reopened as a walking and picnic area.

The property has fallen into deep disrepair since the zoo closed in 1987. In January, the town bought the land from the state for $188,000, and now plans to spend $140,000 to renovate three historic buildings and other structures on the 165-acre site.

The Nashua Telegraph says the town must commit to spending the money by June 30 or return it to the general fund. Earlier this week, selectmen reviewed contractors' bids to repair the roofs of six buildings and will decide soon on the scope of the work.
