TROY, N.H.—A Veterans Day ceremony in one New Hampshire community has taken special meaning.
In Troy, family members and friends gathered on the town green Wednesday to remember U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Stephen Murphy, who was killed in Iraq over the weekend. Among those on hand was Carol Murphy, his mother, who said she was hoping there had been some mistake in identification when three Marines showed up at her door Sunday to tell her.
WMUR-TV reports that friends called Murphy an inspiration and a hero.
Another ceremony to remember Murphy is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the town green.
