SEABROOK, N.H.—The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission is planning an additional inspection of the Seabrook nuclear power plant following a problem with a diesel generator.

The NRC says on Feb. 25 an emergency generator did not pass a routine test because of a cooling system leak.

Emergency generators provide backup power for the plant's safety systems in case of a power loss.

On Aug. 28, the NRC said the leak in a joint was caused by inadequate design controls by the plant's owner, NextEra Energy Resources.

The NRC said the finding had low to moderate safety significance because the generator may not have operated as long as required. But it said the overall risk was limited because other generators were available.
