BRENTWOOD, N.H.—A Rochester woman is facing charges she stole about $80,000 from the Portsmouth lawyer she was working for.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says 37-year-old Desiree McLoughlin was indicted by a Rockingham County grand jury on five counts of theft by unauthorized taking and a single count of forgery.

Court documents say McLoughlin was first charged in May.

She allegedly took more than 100 checks between April 2005 and September 2008.

The documents say that after being confronted by police McLoughlin acknowledged the thefts.

Her former employer, Joseph Ritzo, was unaware of the thefts until told by police.

Police started investigating after one of Ritzo's clients didn't receive an expected settlement payment.
