CONCORD, N.H.—New Hampshire has been named the safest state in the nation for the third year in a row.

In a report released Monday, Washington-based CQ Press announced its national crime rankings.

CQ Press says Gov. John Lynch has worked with the attorney general, police chiefs and lawmakers to better protect children by passing a tough sexual predator law, increasing the state police and the number of state prosecutors.

Lynch says the state's distinction as the safest is a part of what makes it a great place to live and work and would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of the men and women of New Hampshire law enforcement.
