CONCORD, N.H.—The town of Hampton must pay $34,000 in legal fees to two street preachers who filed a civil rights action after they were charged with violating noise ordinances.
Lawyers for Mark Frost and Jayson Gardner had asked the court to approve nearly $62,000 in legal fees, but a federal judge deemed that too high and lowered the award.
The town and preachers settled the civil rights lawsuit last year and the pair are allowed to preach between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. They were arrested in August 2008, but were found not guilty. Legal fees were the final dispute in the case.![]()
