HANOVER, N.H.—Dartmouth College has a new chief academic officer.
Carol Folt, who has been serving as acting provost since October, was appointed to the position Wednesday. She plans to step down from her job as dean of the faculty of Arts and Sciences to focus on the new position, the college's second-highest ranking officer.
Folt, who joined Dartmouth's biology department in 1983, is a leading researcher in metal toxicity and the effects of dietary mercury and arsenic on human health. She replaces Provost Barry Scherr, who served as provost for eight years.![]()
