ALTON, N.H.—New Hampshire firefighters believe a fire on Mount Major in the town of Alton might have started at a campsite.

The fire was contained at about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday on the mountain just south of Lake Winnipesaukee. It was first spotted Tuesday.

WMUR-TV reports firefighters found part of a tent and a reflector stove. They think someone might have been fixing breakfast and because of the dry conditions, the fire got out of control.

Officials say firefighters have been facing exhaustion from the 90-degree heat. Three firefighters were treated Tuesday.

The fire is near 30 acres of the mountain that burned two years ago and was brought under control by 100 firefighters and two helicopters that dropped water on the brush fire.
