CONCORD, N.H.—It appears New Hampshire is avoiding major problems from Hurricane Earl.
A tropical storm watch for the state was canceled at 11 a.m. Friday as the storm moved further off shore. State emergency management officials said Friday that up to 2 inches of rain was expected, along with strong rip currents along the coast.
Gregg Champlin, a spokesman for the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said it looked like Earl was going to be a "nonevent" for New Hampshire.
Town beaches in Seabrook and Rye were being closed Friday because of the rough surf.![]()
