MANCHESTER, N.H.—A New Hampshire Marine who lost his leg in Afghanistan is the first veteran in the state to receive a bionic lower leg.

Retired Marine Corp. John Munoz-Ramirez (MOO' nyaws rah' MIH' res) tells WMUR-TV (http://bit.ly/rZ3aG5) he can jump and climb the stairs again, years after he stepped on an explosive device in Afghanistan in 2008.He lost his lower left leg and three fingers.

The 27-year-old from Merrimack has traded in a flat-footed prosthesis for a $50,000 Powerfoot, a flexible, computerized invention that developers say is as close to a human foot as technology has come.

Munoz-Ramirez said his new leg bears the Marine Corps insignia. He says it will make keeping up with his son and his job at BAE Systems much easier and less painful.
