TILTON, N.H.—Police officers in Tilton, N.H., who have been dealing with a major jewelry store theft and counterfeit check cases have been recognized for going out of their way to help retail businesses.

Police Chief Robert Cormier, Detectives Nate Buffington and Matt Dawson and the department have been honored as law enforcement partner of the year. The Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire recognized them Thursday.

Tilton is home to the Tanger Outlet. Police have been working on an armed robbery case at the Kay Jewelers store there in November, in which more than $200,000 worth of merchandise was taken.

They also helped arrest three men accused of passing bogus checks at stores at the outlet, as well as in Vermont and Massachusetts, and cashing counterfeit payroll checks.
