Romney PAC pulls in $1-million in second quarter of '06

A new report brings more evidence that potential 2008 presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been aggressively raising money.

The federal affiliate of his Commonwealth PAC pulled in $1,079,019 in the second quarter of 2006, according to a posting Friday night on Political Moneyline. Broken down by state, the PAC collected $340,000 from Massachusetts donors; $273,000 from Utah; $206,000 from California and $134,000 from Michigan.

He also appears to be laying the groundwork in two states that would be key in a general election: Florida and Ohio. The PAC donated $1,000 to US Rep. Robert Ney, who is facing federal scrutiny, and another $10,000 to committees supporting Ohio candidate for governor Ken Blackwell. The PAC also gave $5,000 to a Florida GOP committee.

As part of his PAC strategy, he has several affiliates of the Commonwealth PAC. The Fix, a blog at the Washington Post, details recent activity in the South Carolina affiliate, and notes the Globe's coverage of the PAC. The New Hampshire affiliate reported earlier this month, revealing donations from several NY donors.
