Bonifaz defends Patrick's Coca-Cola work

John Bonifaz, a candidate for secretary of state who represented clients in cases against Coca-Cola Co., yesterday defended gubernatorial Deval Patrick, who is under attack from an advocacy group critical of the company. The Globe reported Monday that the group Killer Coke is launching a campaign to highlight Patrick's role as a Coca-Cola executive. State House News Service reported that Bonifaz, who along with his father, Cristobal, represented Ecuadorians and Peruvians in two separate cases, said he met Patrick during those proceedings. ``I think that Deval did try very hard to resolve the matter, but unfortunately I think that there were other forces within the company that chose not to have the matter resolved and instead wanted to avoid any responsibility whatsoever for damage to the Ecuadorean and Peruvian Amazon," Bonifaz said.
