A strong showing in the primary suggests that turnout will be high today as voters head to the polls. Almost 2.4 million people, or 60 percent of registered voters, are expected to participate, according to Avi Green, executive director of MassVOTE, a civic advocacy group. The secretary of state and other officials declined to issue traditional turnout predictions after primary estimates were off.
High temperatures in the upper 50s today and morning sunshine could help turnout, although midafternoon clouds may bring scattered showers.
The last governor's race, in 2002, brought out to the polls about 2.2 million, or 55 percent of registered voters.![]()
