New Hampshire Today, Aug. 15

Posted by James Pindell August 15, 2007 07:39 AM

In New Hampshire today Dennis Kucinich and Duncan Hunter try to appeal to voters and the press in Manchester today while Democrats are happy about a court ruling that will mean more money in their pocket.

Kucinich will hold a press conference this morning announcing local endorsements and even stop by the Red Arrow diner.(Note: there isn't a lot on the menu for a vegan like Kucinich.)

Hunter is scheduled to speak at a downtown law firm.

Yesterday Kansas Senator Sam Brownback had two public events. The Associated Press reports he said that a governor (like Romney) won't have the foreign policy experience needed to be the next president. Brownback serves on the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee.

The Nashua Telegraph suggests that Brownback's nearly singular focus on the Iowa Caucus means he had to spend his trip in New Hampshire introducing himself. The same story said only 20 people showed up to see Brownback and "some of the visitors to the small college were from Brownback’s campaign. Others represented outfits such as Carbon Coalition and the antipoverty effort, One. The remainder of the crowd was made up of students and members of the press."

Meanwhile, the New Hampshire Democratic Party is won a lawsuit preventing the state from selling a voter database list to entities beyond the state's two political parties. The New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union sued on behalf of the Libertarian Party who wanted access. The ruling means both parties could sell such lists on to presidential campaigns for big money, but so far only the Democrats are actually selling them.

In other New Hampshire news, the state's Commissioner of Health and Human Services, the state's largest agency, left office yesterday without announcing what he will do next. Many believe he, John Stephen, is prepping for another run at Congress. The Concord Monitor reports Governor John Lynch will nominate Stephan's deputy to be a temporary commissioner.
