New Hampshire today, Aug. 31

By James Pindell August 31, 07 08:37 AM

In New Hampshire the buzz is on three things. First, Fred Thompson's entry to the race, his dissing of the state Republican Party. Second, the Fire Fighters are in town with Chris Dodd with their fresh endorsement and questions about what it all means. Third, preparations for Bill and Hillary Clinton coming back to the state on Sunday.

The Globe reports on the complications of Thompson's announcement yesterday that he will enter the race next week. The Union Leader runs this headline to on the same news: "Thompson picks Jay Leno over UNH debate".

The head of the International Association of Fire Fighters will campaign with Chris Dodd at a fire station in Manchester today.

And Concord and Portsmouth are preparing for the Clinton visit Sunday. Amazingly officials in touristy Portsmouth are shutting down the town square for the event.

Speaking of the Clintons, Hillary tells the Globe she LOVES NH.

In other news the Union Leader reports that New Hampshire state Representative Michael Brunelle was convicted with a DWI last month. Brunelle, 23, is now studying in Europe. Before he left for Europe he was working for the Dodd campaign.

State House employees are getting a raise, according to the Concord Monitor.
