Edwards NH staffer and family friend leaves campaign after e-mails surface
MANCHESTER, N.H. -- A long-time family friend of John Edwards as well as his New Hampshire deputy political director of his presidential campaign resigned from his position earlier in the week after someone gained access to his e-mail account, printed off e-mails he had written with unkind characterizations of leading state Democrats and mailed them party leaders.
Matt Spence, who was a childhood friend with Wade Edwards before he died, generally had a good reputation in the state as an organizer.
In 2004 he was the campaign manager for state Senator Peter Burling's campaign.
