Romney and Giuliani spar over taxes
DERRY, N.H. -- On Wednesday Rudy Giuliani sat in the back booth of MaryAnn's Diner in Derry talking about the Yankees and tax cuts. On Thursday Mitt Romney sat in the same seat talking about the Red Sox and tax cuts.
But the comments around that event calling out Rudy Giuliani by name created a dynamic back and forth between the campaigns over the issue of taxes.
At Saint Anselm College in the morning Romney was asked pointedly what the difference was between himself and Giuliani.
He accused Giuliani of fighting an line item veto for the president and for suing New York State to keep a "commuter tax".
You can watch the question and answer below.
Giuliani responded by holding a conference call with former Massachusetts Governor Paul Cellucci who accused Romney of raising taxes while he was governor.
Talking to reporters in Derry Romney was happy to continue the storyline and called Giuliani out by name.
"He was the person in this nation most single handedly responsibile for ending the line item veto that had been passed by Congress. And that was a mistake. He fought the line item veto all the way to the Supreme Court," said Romney.
