New Hampshire Today, Dec. 10

By James Pindell December 10, 07 09:24 AM

In New Hampshire today, there is word that Oprah has left the building.

After the largest political event in recent New Hampshire memory last night with Oprah Winfrey and Barack Obama in Manchester, the state is oddly quiet for the first part of this week as candidates either raise money or focus on Iowa.

The weekend local papers though had plenty of write-ups about the campaign. The Globe profiled Mike Huckabee's current state of his campaign, John McCain tone on the stump, last night's GOP debate, what the impact is of Oprah's poltiical coming-out for Obama, Rudy Giuliani's drop in poll numbers, the lack of late-night jokes with the television writer's stirke and what that means for the campaign, what the rise in power of Mormons could mean for country and that church, profiles of the lesser known presidential candidates, and even the inside story from former Governor John H. Sununu as to how he helped then-Vice President George H.W. Bush win the 1988 New Hampshire Primary.

But that's just the Globe.

The Union Leader, and Concord Monitor also cover Oprah in Manchester.

The Monitor also covers John Edwards's NAFTA event.

Foster's Daily Democrat also has a smart article about how local clerks are preparing for the earliest ever presidential primary.
