Voter informationThe Massachusetts primary elections are Sept.19. The deadline to register to vote in the primaries is Aug. 30. The general election is Nov. 7. The deadline to register to vote in the general election is Oct. 18. All polls in Massachusetts close at 8 p.m. To find out where to vote, visit the secretary of state's election information page. Registering to voteYou can register to vote if you are at least 18 years old, a US citizen, and a resident of Massachusetts.
You can register to vote in person at your local City Hall or Town Hall. You also can register by mail or at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. You cannot register to vote online. You can find the location of your City Hall or Town Hall through the secretary of state's city and town directory. You can obtain a mail-in registration form here, or call 617-727-2828 or 1-800-462-VOTE. Here's a list of Registry of Motor Vehicles branch offices. Absentee ballotsYou are eligible to vote by absentee ballot if you: • will be away from your city or town on election day • have a physical disability that prevents your voting at the polling place, or • cannot vote at the polls because of religious beliefs Apply for an absentee ballot by writing to or visiting your city or town clerk or election commission and requesting an application form. Or you can download one of these applications: Whichever method you choose, the application must be made in writing and signed.
