Celebrities to headline RI charity golf tournament

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) — Singer Jeffrey Osborne and former pro basketball star Magic Johnson are hosting a golf tournament in Portsmouth to raise money for organizations that support music and the arts for children.

The inaugural Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Classic is being held at the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth on Monday and Tuesday.

Proceeds will benefit Amos House, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School and The MET School.

Other celebrities expected to attend are singers Smokey Robinson and Peabo Bryson, comedian and actor Sinbad, Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers and former Celtics star John Havlicek, Miami Heat President Pat Riley and former Boston Red Sox pitcher Dennis ‘‘Oil Can’’ Boyd.

Osborne is a native of Rhode Island.end of story marker
