PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Providence College has opened a storefront space on Smith Hill where classes, community meetings and even an exercise class will be held.

The 1,000-square-foot space at 231 Douglas Ave. is being called the Providence College/Smith Hill Annex. College officials say it’s available for use by campus groups, community groups and others who want to boost interaction between the neighborhood and campus.

The college experimented with the space during the spring semester, opening it for classes and youth group meetings and trainings. Plans are in the works for a book group, a yoga class and other offerings.

The space is among the storefronts being developed by the Smith Hill Community Development Corp.end of story marker
