EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — East Providence police say some mayhem broke out after an early morning car accident when three other drivers who approached the crash site were charged with DUI, including one who collided with a police cruiser.
The series of events began at about 1 a.m. Sunday when a minivan hit a utility pole on Warren Avenue. No one was seriously injured. Police believe the 21-year-old driver fell asleep and no charges are expected. A toddler was among two passengers in the van.
Police say a second driver was charged with DUI after she struck a police cruiser and hit another pole at the accident scene. No one was injured. It was the sixth East Providence cruiser to be damaged in the past week.
Two other drivers were also charged with DUI.
