NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island’s health director has suspended the license of a nurse practitioner who the state says failed to quarantine recalled products from a Massachusetts specialty pharmacy linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak.
Health director Michael Fine announced Wednesday that he suspended Gerald Dornhecker’s license after inspectors found recalled products from New England Compounding Center in patient rooms at the business he works for, Skin Essentials, a North Providence wellness spa.
Products from New England Compounding Center were recalled following a meningitis outbreak linked to steroid injections it prepared.
The state says Dornhecker initially said the business did not possess the recalled products.
Fine also ordered Skin Essentials to remove any remaining products subject to the recall.
Messages left for Dornhecker and representatives of the business were not immediately returned Wednesday.
