PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — An event at the Rhode Island Convention Center is seeking to offer food and clothing to at least 1,000 people in need.
Saturday’s event is called ‘‘Feed 1,000.’’ It is organized by PMG Inc., a Pawtucket-based company that manages medical billing for community health centers.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) and Providence Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) are co-sponsors of the event, which begins at noon and runs until 4 p.m. Saturday.
A number of local businesses and nonprofit organizations are also sponsoring the event.
Besides food, the event offers clothing, a flu vaccine clinic and toys for children.
Last year’s ‘‘Feed 1,000’’ served more than 1,250 people.
