WOONSOCKET, R.I. (AP) — Hundreds in Woonsocket briefly lost power after a private person cut down a tree and it fell on power lines.

National Grid spokeswoman Jackie Barry said about 2,900 people initially lost electricity after the accident at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

But she said workers were able to quickly reduce the outages to just a few dozen people, with full power expected restored by late afternoon.

She said the tree didn’t appear to damage any infrastructure, which was why the power could be quickly restored.end of story marker
