CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — A mother who police say left her 18-month-old son at a Family Dollar store in Cranston has been arraigned on child neglect charges.
Thirty-five-year-old Desiree Pope, of Providence, told police she was traveling home by bus from the store on Wednesday when she realized that she had left her child behind.
By the time she contacted police, employees at the store had already called police to report finding the toddler in a stroller. The child was evaluated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where he was found to be in good health. The boy is now being cared for by his father.
Pope was ordered after Thursday’s court hearing to have no contact with her son. Police and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families continue to investigate.
