PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) says the state is asking the federal government to allow individuals in Bristol County to qualify for disaster aid if they were affected by Superstorm Sandy.
People affected by the storm in Newport and Washington counties were previously approved to get aid and loans to help them recover from the storm.
President Barack Obama has also approved federal disaster aid to help repair public buildings and streets in Bristol, Newport, Kent and Washington counties.
Chafee’s office says that Monday’s revised request is based on work by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assess the damage in Bristol County.
If it’s approved, homeowners and business owners could apply for assistance such as grants for home repairs and low-interest loans.
