PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Federal disaster officials are reminding people that they have a few more days to apply for grants or loans if they were affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says the deadline to register is midnight Monday. Those affected by the storm may register online at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA.

The aid can help pay for home repairs, temporary housing, damage to vehicles and other expenses.

Federal officials said this week that the government has paid $6 million on 1,020 claims made in Rhode Island related to the October storm.end of story marker
