Newport’s famed Cliff Walk will need millions of dollars’ worth of repairs after extensive damage from Superstorm Sandy. The Providence Journal reported that preliminary estimates put the price tag for repairs to the 3½-mile walk at $8 million. About half the walk was closed last fall after part of the path and a retaining wall washed away and because of other damage. The walk along Newport’s eastern shore is one of the city’s top attractions. It has been designated a National Recreation Trail.
