R.I. bill would ban pets from drivers’ laps

A lawmaker in Rhode Island wants to pass a law to stop motorists from driving with a dog in their lap. State Representative Peter Palumbo announced legislation this week that would allow police to issue $85 tickets to drivers who operate a motor vehicle with their pet in their lap. The Cranston Democrat said the practice poses a danger to the driver, their pet, and other motorists. Palumbo said he loves dogs, but common sense must prevail when it comes to road safety.
