PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island’s attorney general says a man previously convicted of killing his girlfriend has now been convicted of killing another person while free on bail in the murder case against him for his girlfriend’s death.
Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin announced Friday that 24-year-old Victor Arciliares (ar-SHUH'-lar-ees) was found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in the Oct. 30, 2010, death of Alfredo Barros.
Prosecutors say Barros and Arciliares argued outside a gas station in Providence and Barros was shot as he sat in a vehicle stopped at a red light at an intersection in Pawtucket. Prosecutors say Arciliares also shot at other passengers in the vehicle.
Arciliares was sentenced last summer to life plus 45 years for the 2009 slaying of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Dayvellis Cotto.
