CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island teenager is facing drunk driving and other charges after her vehicle struck a stationary state police cruiser in Cranston and left the scene.
Troopers stopped 19-year-old Shannon Hawkins several hundred feet from the crash site on Route 37 West early Saturday. No one was injured.
Police say Hawkins, of Glocester, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, refusal to submit to a chemical test and possession of marijuana. She was held overnight at state police headquarters.
A woman who answered the phone at Hawkins’ home declined to comment.
In separate incidents, state police arrested two other people on suspicion of driving while drunk and investigated a rollover accident in Exeter in which the driver was ejected from the car and suffered serious injuries.
