CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (AP) — Central Falls City Hall has been shut down after a water pipe burst and flooded the first and second floors of the building, including the City Council chambers and the Finance Department.
City workers discovered the problem when they arrived to work Monday morning. They say the finance office’s ceiling collapsed because of the flooding and many computers, copy machines, financial documents and other items were destroyed or damaged.
Officials believe the pipe burst because of the cold weather.
All meetings and Municipal Court proceedings scheduled at City Hall have been postponed.
City officials are hoping to reopen the building by the end of the week.
