WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police have identified a driver killed when his vehicle smashed into a tree in Warwick.

Authorities say 19-year-old Timothy Torres was trapped in the wreckage after crashing into a tree on West Shore Road shortly before midnight Tuesday. He had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Torres was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police say the preliminary investigation is centering on whether speed, alcohol and roadway conditions were factors.
