PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Environmental experts in Rhode Island say climate change, water contaminants and coastal flooding will be among the state’s top environmental challenges for years to come.

State lawmakers and top environmental officials in Rhode Island gathered Monday for a forum hosted by the group Save The Bay.

Presenters at the event detailed steps the state and its municipalities have taken to reduce the pollutants that enter Narragansett Bay with storm run-off. They also talked about ways the state can deal with the coastal flooding that’s expected to increase with climate change.

Speakers included the directors of the state departments of Transportation and Environmental Management and lawmakers who lead the General Assembly’s environmental committees.end of story marker
