Developer, environmentalists reach deal on whales

The company planning a wind farm off Block Island has reached an agreement with an environmental group that both sides say will help protect endangered whales while the project is built. Deepwater Wind and the Conservation Law Foundation announced an agreement Monday under which the company will change its planned construction period to minimize any potential impact on North Atlantic right whales. The company had planned to begin driving steel piles into the ocean floor in April of whatever year construction begins. But it has agreed to hold off on that work until May 1.
