PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Authorities in Rhode Island have arrested 49 people in a sweep of suspects in the Providence metropolitan area who were wanted on warrants.
State Police said the arrests were made Wednesday morning by state troopers in cooperation with police departments in Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket, Central Falls, East Providence, Cumberland and Lincoln. The Massachusetts State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service were also involved.
The suspects were arrested on various warrants that are unrelated. The sweep also resulted in new narcotics and weapons charges. A semi-automatic handgun and an ounce of crack cocaine were seized during the operation.
The suspects were to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Providence Superior Court and Providence District Court.
