PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Top state lawmakers in Rhode Island have gathered with hundreds of local business leaders to discuss their ideas for boosting the state’s economy.

House Speaker Gordon Fox, Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed and other ranking lawmakers said Wednesday that the economy remains their top priority this year. The remarks came before 650 people who attended the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce’s annual legislative luncheon at the Rhode Island Convention Center.

The lawmakers discussed their ideas for regulatory reform, taxes and economic development.

Chamber President Laurie White says she’s noticed a ‘‘sea change’’ in the General Assembly’s focus on the economy and says she’s pleased they’re concentrating on improving the state’s business climate.
