PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — National Grid says it’s working to restore power to the thousands of homes and businesses without power in Rhode Island following a massive snowstorm, and they’re advising residents to be prepared for outages that could last for days.
Some 145,000 electrical customers were without power Saturday night. More than 180,000 customers lost power at some point during the storm.
The utility reports that snow is making the work harder by blocking access to power lines and equipment. Newport and Bristol counties were particularly hard hit, with virtually every customer losing power during the storm.
Shelters have been set up throughout the state for people without power or heat.
National Grid has brought in hundreds of extra crews to restore power.
