PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The foundation raising money for a memorial at the site of a 2003 nightclub fire that killed 100 people is adding former Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider to its upcoming benefit comedy show.
The Station Fire Memorial Foundation says so far sales have been slow for the March 8 show. It aims to raise a total of $1 million to $1.5 million to build and maintain a memorial at site of the West Warwick blaze.
The fire happened when pyrotechnics from the rock band Great White ignited flammable foam that lined the walls and ceiling of The Station nightclub on Feb. 20, 2003.
A public memorial service for the fire’s 10th anniversary is scheduled for Sunday. Gov. Lincoln Chafee and former Gov. Don Carcieri are among those expected to attend.
