Rhode Island’s gay marriage supporters are hoping that support from business leaders including a former Hasbro chief executive could persuade lawmakers that it is time Rhode Island joined the other New England states in allowing same-sex nuptials. Alan Hassenfeld, former chief executive at the Rhode Island-based toymaker, joined 60 other business leaders from around the state this week in endorsing gay marriage legislation pending in the General Assembly. Hassenfeld said allowing gay marriage would help Rhode Island attract businesses and workers. The legislation has passed the House, but has not received a vote in the Senate.
