WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police say a Warwick woman was drunk as she drove on Post Road and veered onto oncoming traffic, leading to a head on collision with another car that left injured four people, including a young girl who is in critical condition.

Police said on Saturday that 48-year-old Jeanette Lawrence refused a chemical test after the Friday night crash. Authorities have charged her with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Lawrence and the woman driving the other car were briefly trapped in their vehicles.

The two drivers and a third woman, who was a passenger, were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. A young girl who was in the car struck by Lawrence’s is in critical condition at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Additional charges may be filed against Lawrence.
